HAPPY WOMAN FESTAの10周年を迎えられましたことを心よりお祝い申し上げます。主催者の皆様、そしてこの10年間にわたり本イベントを意義深いプラットフォームへと育ててこられたすべての方々に、心からお祝いと敬意を表します。Happy Woman Festaは、日本における国際女性デーの認知向上と、全国の女性や少女のエンパワーメントに向けた機運の醸成において、重要な役割を果たしてきました。祝福と振り返りの機会を通じて人々を結びつけることで、ジェンダー平等が社会の関心の最前線にあり続けるよう大きく貢献してこられました。
2026年の国際女性デーのグローバルテーマ「権利・正義・行動。すべての女性と少女のために」は、時宜を得たものであると同時に、強い緊急性を伴うものです。本テーマは、権利の前進、正義の促進、そして世界的なジェンダー平等の加速に向けた具体的な行動を求めています。今日、世界各地において、女性は差別的な法律、限られた法的知識、経済的制約、社会規範などを背景に、司法へのアクセスにおいて男性よりも多くの障壁に直面しています。これらの課題に取り組むには、強い意思だけでなく、持続的かつ連携した行動が不可欠です。
国連大学では、ジェンダー平等の推進には意図的かつ継続的な努力が必要であると認識しています。私たちは、研究・教育活動のみならず、組織運営においてもジェンダーの視点を取り入れ、リーダーシップの多様化と説明責任の強化に努めてきました。国連大学は、上級管理職における男女比均等を達成した初期の国連機関の一つであり、現在では所属する研究所の所長の半数以上が女性です。しかしながら、私たちの取り組みは決して十分とは言えません。司法へのアクセス不足を含む依然として残る構造的障壁を取り除き、周縁化された人々の声をより一層高め、十分でない点があれば自らに責任を課し続けていかなければなりません。
真に意味のある変化は、社会のあらゆる部門が主体的に担い、後押ししてこそ実現します。HAPPY WOMAN FESTAが、東京のみならず日本各地で、多様な団体やさまざまな立場の人々を結集し、意識を高め、行動を促していることを大変心強く思います。本年のイベントのご成功を心よりお祈り申し上げます。
On the tenth anniversary of HAPPY WOMAN FESTA, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to the organizers and all those who have contributed to making this special event such a meaningful platform over the past decade. Happy Woman Festa has played an important role in raising awareness in Japan about International Women’s Day and in building momentum to empower women and girls across the country. By bringing people together in celebration and reflection, you have helped ensure gender equality remains at the forefront of public awareness.
The global theme for International Women’s Day 2026 — “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.” — is both timely and urgent. It calls for concrete actions to advance rights, promote justice and accelerate progress towards gender equality worldwide. Across the world today, women face more barriers in accessing justice than men, whether due to discriminatory laws, limited legal literacy, economic constraints or social norms. Addressing these barriers requires not only strong commitments, but sustained and coordinated action.
At the United Nations University, we recognize that advancing gender equality requires deliberate and consistent effort. We have been integrating gender perspectives into our research and education, as well as into our operational planning, to diversify leadership and strengthen accountability frameworks. I am proud to say that UNU was one of the first UN entities to achieve gender parity in senior leadership, and that today more than half of our directors are women. Yet our work is far from over. We must continue to dismantle the structural barriers that persist — including lack of access to justice — amplify marginalized voices and hold ourselves accountable when we fall short.
Meaningful change must be driven and championed by all sectors of society. I am therefore very pleased that HAPPY WOMAN FESTA brings together diverse groups and individuals from all walks of life, not only in Tokyo but across Japan, to raise awareness and galvanize action. I wish you every success for this year’s event.
